For the first time in his career, Rafael Nadal won the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, a tournament he had only reached the semifinals of previously. He defeated American John Isner 7-6(8), 7-6(3) . The win adds 1000 ATP singles ranking points, moving Rafa back to world no. 2, and also makes him a no. 2 seed in the US Open later this month.
In the post-match interview, Rafa said:

Congratulations Rafa! All the best for the US Open!
